Organic wild apricot halves

Organic wild apricot halves

Organic dried apricot halves

from the wild, from controlled organic farming

The apricot comes from Central Asia, from what is today Uzbekistan and not from Armenia, as suggested by its name (Prunus armeniaca). It took them three millennia to cross Central Asia and arrive in Armenia. It was in 70 BC that the Romans finally brought them to the whole of Europe via Anatolia.  The apricot tree is extremely resilient, and can easily withstand sandy soil, heat and aridness. It isn’t without reason that the word “apricot” comes from the Latin apricus – sunny. Our apricots come from the primeval mountains on the plateaux of Uzbekistan, a region which has never seen the use of pesticides. They are harvested from wild and released apricot trees according to controlled organic farming practices certified by the Austria Bio Guarantee, and sun-dried in a natural, gentle way. Since our apricots are not picked from grafted trees, the flavour is sweet and sour, and the fruits themselves are very inhomogeneous and very different. This is what makes our apricot halves so unique. An incredible experience for the palate. The apricots are gently and slowly sun-dried on solar driers of our own construction, and are a 100% natural product. The apricot is a kind of national dish in Uzbekistan, and is traditionally served as a symbol of hospitality. You don’t get any more organic than this! Once they arrive in Austria, the apricots are subjected to laser cleaning by state-of-the-art equipment: this ensures that only the best, purest apricots are put into circulation. The laser cleaning sorts out any stones, leaves, soil, wood and any other foreign bodies from the produce. The apricot is not only extremely flavoursome, it has an extremely high vitamin C content (see below). Enjoy the intensive, fruity acidic taste of these apricots. 100g of dried apricots contain on average: Calorific value: 215kcal/900kJ Protein:5.6g Carbohydrates:45.9g Of which sugar:15.7g Fat: 0.6g Saturated fatty acids:0g Mono-unsaturated fatty acids: 0.3g Poly-unsaturated fatty acids:0.1g Fibre:10.8g Sodium: 0.01g Cholesterol: 0mg Vitamin C:46.4mg = 77% of the RDA
