This region is one of the best and most important regions for cultivating "Deglet nour" dates. Here the cultivation of dates is a centuries old tradition. The warm air and the moist soil lens a unique taste to the dates. Our golden to amber colored organic dates are large, broad and seedless. The skin of the date is very thin but in contrast, the flesh is extremely sweet and soft juicy to crunchy. Our high quality organic (eco) dates are natural and therefore contain no preservatives and are not treated with glucose syrup. We disinfest (disinfestation) our organic dates, so there is no loss of quality due to insects. In order to guarantee that they are 100% free from pesticides, we get all our dates inspected by an independent accredited Austrian laboratory in batches. The dates grow as fruits on so-called "Real Date Palms’’, also known as Phoenix dactylifera, an ancient cultivated crop from the Orient. Its origin dates back to the records of Mesopotamia from the ‘Old World’.The "Real Date Palms" are planted in Palm Gardens and the first dates can be harvested after 5 to 6 years, whereby the utilization period of a palm may range from 80 - 100 years. Date palms can reach a height of 15 to 20 meters, which makes it difficult to maintain and even harvest. A date collector climbs up to 10 times on each palm for harvesting! The dates again grow on the bush which is approximately 30 cm long. A date bush can weigh up to 20 kg and a date palm delivers up to 100 kg per harvest. The plucking of date bushes as well as the removal of date pits is done manually. After harvesting, the dates are roughly sorted on the field. Once brought in production storage, they are accurately sorted as per their size, color, texture and weight before washing. Finally, the dates are carefully dried in the sun (sun drying) until they have a water content of about 20% and a sugar content of approximately 65%. After drying, a quality inspection is done in view of seed removal, water content and for any possible infestation. Thus only the best dates are packed and sent to market.
