A healthy, delicious alternative to the usual snacks

Botanically, the apple belongs to the family of roses. The cultivated apple possibly originates from Asia. It is not known how and when it came to Central Europe. The most plausible reason behind its spreading are trading routes, since the fruit was considered a remedy capable of prolonging life from early times. The small, hard fruits of the indigenous apple were processed as far back as by the Celts and the Teutons. They made the fruit into puree, and extracted must from it. The juice was fermented along with honey.

The cultivated apple is of crucial importance to fruit growing. This is due to the fact that, of all the indigenous fruits, it is the most versatile. Hence, there are more cultivated forms of the apple than of any other fruit: in our part of the world, it is the ultimate fruit. Not without good reason: the apple is not only extremely tasty – its composition is extremely valuable. The apple was mentioned as a medicinal plant in an ancient Babylonian script from the 8th Century BC, which lists the plants from the medicinal herb garden belonging to King Mardukapaliddina. The field of Medieval medicine also attributed healing powers to the apple. Most of the fruits of the types of apple back then would be very sour, taste of tannin and be very woody for the palate of today. There is still a lot of mystery surrounding how, when and which parts of the apple plant were used.
Consumption of fruit with skins generally has an astringent, laxative and germicidal effect. The apple is also good for the stomach. Apple fibres are high in pectins.

The apples we use for our delicious rings are locally harvested. Cultivation, farming and harvesting are carried out under controlled organic conditions. The apples are cored, sliced into thin rings and gently dried. This is all carried out under extremely clean, hygienic conditions. This guarantees that all important ingredients and vitamins are maintained – as well as the full flavour of the apple.
